A ONE-OFF piece of Jimmy Savile memorabilia will soon be going under the hammer.

This 1978 Range Rover Carawagon estate - registration number YBL 322T - was owned by the star when he was at the height of his fame in the late 1970s.

It has a double mattress in the back, its own sink and even comes with the faintest smell of rich Cuban cigar smoke.

Sir Jim used to sleep in it when he was travelling between his five houses while doing charity work.

The custom-made, three door 4x4 is now on public display before being auctioned off to the highest bidder tomorrow at a historic car auction in Surrey.

The estimate for the white off-roader, which has a luxurious beige interior, is between £11,000 and £16,000.

As well as the vehicle itself, its new owner will also have unique registration documents signed by the legendary Leeds DJ who passed away last October.

John Tomlin, from Historics at Brooklands who are handling the sale, said: “It’s a 1978 Range Rover estate bought by Jimmy Savile from new.

“He specified a Carawagon conversion. They were a Midlands company which specialised in modifying Range Rovers, mostly for the military.

“This one has two mattresses in the back, curtains along the windows and a metal wash basin with running water.

“Sir Jimmy owned it and it’s registered to him and comes complete with the original log book. He bought it in 1978 and sold it in 1983. As far as I’m aware it has had seven owners since Sir Jimmy sold it.”

Sir Jim’s fleet of motors included Rolls Royces, a BMW bubble car and a £158,000 Bentley Continental GT Convertible.

I wouldn't even sell my 4 x 4 on its in that bad of a condition. No joke! I have a canister of oil and a canister of water not just in case... its for when I need it, on the back seat! They are just as important as fuel to me!

Renshaw Woods, you'd be funny if your game hadn't already been exposed and oh ye of not only lack of knowledge but low expectations as well. 4-5 grand is a bob or two for anyone who knows about cars.

Forget the Saville connection. This type of motor is really worth a bob or two.

I bet the journalists from Leeds newspapers are laughing their socks off at the SEN for running all of these stories. For heaven's sake has nothing happened in this town in the past couple of days that they can write about instead? I could give them a couple of stories if things are that desperate!

A double mattress in the back eh? I can sense that there will now be a whole procession of kiss and tell stories in the Sun from his conquests telling us how they went into that vehicle as a girl and left it the next morning as a woman .

Seriously !!! SEN hang your poor journalistic heads in shame. You really call yourself a paper ?. Does anyone at your offices actually know how to go out and get a REAL STORY ? Please give your long suffering readers a rest and let this man rest in peace and actually employ people who may actually report on things people ACTUALLY find interesting !

I would like to suggest that The Scarborough Evening News, a contradiction in itself, should be re-named Sir Jimmy Savile Memorial News. It can then dispense with all the other rubbish news that is about and just keep us all informed about the great up and coming Jimmy News. It can then start a campaign to turn the whole of Scarborough into Jimmyville a Savile based theme park. We wouldn’t have to worry about shops closing, people would flock here just to buy cigars and a whole new industry would spring up to supply demand. Really SEN is there any more old rope left to drag out? Was this “article” paid for by the owner of the Range Rover, because if not you should be charging for this advert.
