Shaking it out on the coast

THE Shakinouts, from Leeds, will headline the first in a new series of gigs called Coastlive, at Vivaz on June 21.

The band, who were due to film a video in Scarborough this week, have a growing fanbase which includes Matt Bowman from the Pigeon Detectives, Simon Rix from Kaiser Chiefs and music pioneer Edwyn Collins.

Coastlive aims to provide a variety of gigs up and down the North Yorkshire coast, promoting local and national music including acoustic, pop, indie and electronica, in various venues and locations.

The launch gig will also feature:

l Alvin Purple, whose first recording, Don't be Alarmed, caused enough of a buzz to land a string of live dates, remix requests and a live radio session. They made their London debut at the 100 Club with Dark Captain Light Captain and are now writing their debut EP.

l The Ruling Class, described by Coastlive promoter Darrell Hooper as “five boys based in Stoke Newington who play lovely, ruffled, old-school indie-pop-rock. They recently toured with the Charlatans and their second single, Sleeping Beauty/ Marian Shrine will be released on July 13.

l Manfat Voodoo, a Scarborough trio who have been around for more years than they would care to remember.

l A solo set by a member of York pop, big-beat, trip-hop band Grinny Grandad, who played at Glastonbury last year.
