New theatre company to bare its teeth
A NEW theatre company showcasing the talents of performers and writers has been launched.
Scarborough Actors and Writers (SAW) was formed from Coast Scriptwriters, who meet monthly at the library.
The group consists of five writers, two of who act, and 11 others.
Speaking at the launch, one of the writers, Steven Ayckbourn, said: “The group’s aim is to focus on new writing which both entertains and provides a forum for social interaction within the community, by utilising the skills of local people who are keen on theatre.”
Co-founder Pat Lawty added: “The group is keen to build links with other local arts organisations and develop working partnerships within the community.
“Though members currently work on a volunteer basis, SAW is striving to obtain funding to cover basic operating costs.
“If any company or individual would be willing to sponsor us in any capacity whatsoever, we would be most grateful to hear from them.”
The group’s first project is Five Story Hotel, a play in five parts by five writers, to be performed at the library on July 3 and 4.
