This is British director Ken Loach's bittersweet slice of life, shot on location in Manchester.

It's possibly his most mainstream, feel-good hit to date - except perhaps in Liverpool. With a pivotal dramatic role for both Manchester United FC and its fondly-remembered Gallic superstar Eric Cantona, it could stick in the craw of the Anfield faithful. For everyone else, this heartfelt coming-of-middle-age story finds emotional truth and earthy humour in the simple story of a single father struggling to raise two stepsons. It will be shown by Scarborough Film Society at the library on Friday 19.
