History in the making at extravaganza
A MUSIC and arts extravaganza billed as one of the biggest youth events in Scarborough's history takes place on Saturday.
AfterShock, at Safe Ways Park and Sainsbury’s Community Centre from 3-10pm, is a free event aimed at young people aged 13-19.
Organised by North Yorkshire County Council’s Connecting Youth Culture and 4Youth, it will be headlined by the Squatters.
The hotly-tipped dance group have been played on Radio 1 by DJ Judge Jules and have worked with Ministry of Sound and Mixmag.
Band member Oli Portamento says: “Playing AfterShock is going to be amazing for us. We love Scarborough. It’s going to be a monster of a party!”
Young people will be able to work with professional artists on workshops on dance, banners, manga, DJing and giant puppet making.
The event is part of CYC’s CultureShock festival, in Northallerton on July 3.
Spokesman James Koppert says: “Young people were disappointed that their event only happens once a year so AfterShocks were set up as mini festivals to be held in different areas of the county as positive events to inspire and nurture young people’s talent in the arts and culture.”
