Heroes on the high seas

A HEROIC lifeboat crew goes into action in Hull Truck's next play.

On A Shout is set in the depths of winter, with the wind howling and rain lashing down.

It tells the story of an east Yorkshire lifeboat crew and the dangers they face on every mission.

Dramatic sound, lighting and other visual effects will be used to create the atmosphere of high seas and gallant rescues.

On A Shout follows the lives of crews past and present, focusing on coxswain George (Edward Peel) and his colleagues – cocky Cooky (Richard Standing), Portuguese (David Barrass), studious Dobbo (Matthew Stathers) and their first female member Jo (Laura Doddington). Laura was in nine plays at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in 2004 and 2005.

The action follows the brave crew on 'shouts', but also looks deeper into the effects of life at sea; the friendships formed and lives lost.

On A Shout is the latest play by Dave Windass, who attracted full houses with his play about Hull rugby legend Clive Sullivan.

As the play tackles a local subject, it is expected to be another hit with Truck audiences, and is supported by the RNLI. On A Shout's launch coincides with the charity's main fundraising event of the year, SOS Day, and Hull Truck will be supporting the charity with displays and collection boxes.

It opens on Thursday January 24 and runs until Saturday February 16.
