Healy ushers in new era in town's clubbing scene
AN internationally acclaimed world famous DJ says he may bring his equally famous wife with him the next time he plays in Scarborough.
Jeremy Healy, who is married to actress Patsy Kensit, visited the town after being asked to headline the first of a string of events at Tonics in Waterhouse Lane.
Before playing to the crowds, Jeremy spoke exclusively to the Evening News at the Crown Spa Hotel where he stayed for the weekend.
He said: “I have been to Scarborough before for a gig. It was in a hotel but I can’t remember which one. I wasn’t playing so I literally only came for the gig then left again.
“I agreed to come and play here because it sounds like a great club. In the 90s there was such a great music scene going on, and now there doesn’t seem to be places like that. It was nice to hear that Scarborough was putting together some good events so I decided to come and play.
He added: “I like to keep a contrast with what I do. When I am working on big shows with hundreds of people in huge cities I get to the stage when I want to do the complete opposite. It keeps things interesting for me.
“It is really nice to be in Scarborough again and I hope to see a bit more of the place this time. I love it at the seaside.
“I am sure I would come back again. I’m sure Pasty would like it too. She does come on the road with us but unfortunately she couldn’t make it this weekend.”
In the early 1980s Jeremy was part of the pop duo Haysi Fantayzee, and had a couple of top-20 singles. He also worked with Boy George on a new project, E-Zee Posse, with Everything Starts With an E. The track sold 150,000 copies.
After meeting John Galliano at a fashion show, Jeremy has arranged and produced the score at the designer’s shows ever since. He has also worked on fashion soundscapes for Dior, Versace, Jigsaw, Chaumet, Katherine Hamnett, Vivienne Westwood, Etro, Pucci and Pret Porter.
The shows feature the world’s top supermodels including Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima, Karolina Kurkova, Selita Ebanks, Marisa Miller, Alessandra Ambrosio and Gisele Bundchen.
Jeremy spends each November in the USA working on soundtracks for Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, an annual event which CBS airs worldwide in December.
In recent years he has worked alongside Mary J Blige, Justin Timberlake, Beyonc, Sting, Seal, Usher and the Spice Girls.
On Saturday night Jeremy was the first DJ booked to play at a new event called Dirty DJs Up Close and Personal, previously known as Dirty DJs.
Other DJs coming up at Tonics are K-Class (July 11), Brandon Block (Aug 8), Alex P (Sep 12) and Graeme Park (Oct 10).
