Fans snap up early ticket sales

A HUNDRED early-bird tickets for the 11th annual Musicport festival went on sale on Monday – and were snapped up immediately.

Director Jim McLaughlin says: "We've already sold another 20 of the mid-price tickets which are on sale now, limited to 500.

"The line-up is still under discussion but rest assured it'll be up to the usual high standard."

Acts who have already been confirmed, subject to contract, are Canadian guitarist Erik Mongrain, recently seen on Later with Jools; the Anxo Lorenzo Band from Galicia; the New Rope String Band; Havana D'Primera from Cuba; Invisible System from Ethiopia; and the Master Drummers of Africa.

The headline acts for the festival, at Bridlington Spa from October 22-24, are still being negotiated.

Musicport, base in Whitby, is planning concerts in the town by three of the highlights of the 2009 festival: Rango, the Hut People and the Voluntary Butler Scheme.
