Debut blues band set for a 'Kingly' welcome

ALAN Nimmo's new band are making their Blues Club debut next Tuesday.

Although it is less than a year since they formed, King King are already creating a stir on the blues circuit, receiving rave reviews wherever they appear.

They headlined both the Blues on the Farm and Maryport blues festivals this year and at the Monaghan blues festival the organisers remarked: “King King aren’t just playing the festival, King King are the festival”.

Their debut EP Broken Heal received a gleaming review in Blues Matters magazine, with praise for it’s “emotive lyrics” and “stirring guitar work”.

Not surprisingly, the band has received a great deal of airplay. Next Monday, just before their Scarborough gig, they will be play live on Paul Jones’ programme on Radio 2.

One reason for King King’s outstanding success is their charismatic frontman, Alan Nimmo. He is widely known throughout the UK and other parts of Europe for his pivotal role with the award-winning Nimmo Brothers.

While he still tours with brother Stevie – they headlined the first day of Carlisle’s blues festival a few weeks ago – King King offers an ideal vehicle for Alan’s individual skills including dazzling guitar work, contagious energy and impassioned vocals.

“This is an exhilarating, energetic, feel-good band which should appeal to anyone wishing to add something special to their Christmas festivities,” says club organiser, Mark Horsley.

“It’s also very fortunate that our club will be benefit, yet again, from the extra publicity caused by the band’s appearance on Radio 2. This will be the second time in recent weeks that artists have featured on the BBC, immediately prior to their appearance at our club. On the last occasion Paul Jones paid tribute to our venture and the ‘thriving blues scene’ in Scarborough”.

In view of the publicity surrounding the gig, Mark is anticipating another high turnout. However, tickets are still available and can be purchased for 10 from Mojo’s.
