Birthday celebrations
A PHALANX of local talent will help busker Graham Walker celebrate his birthday when he performs indoors on Sunday.
Graham, whose street name is Grod Groddler, has been booked to play at Cellars.
He will be joined by local guitar legend Jesse Hutchinson, jazz saxophonist Julia Wray, flautist Rob Mackay, keyboard wizard Simon Coles of Sonic Studios, singer-songwriter Jim White and slide guitarist Paul Howard.
Graham, who busks at the entrance to the Balmoral arcade and outside WH Smith, says he will also be joined by three bands: Acoustic Project, the Jaw-line of Julianne Moore, Goat Problems and members of Trauma.
He says: “I’m flattered that these people, who are musically way out my league, have agreed to come and play.
“But they simply like my enthusiasm when I’m out busking, and my songs, and they know I like their music too,” Graham says. “So they want my birthday to be a special affair and a treat for me. The rehearsals alone have been a great experience for me.
“It will be a chance for the public of Scarborough, who have been so supportive of me while I’ve been busking here, to see what I sound like with a proper PA and top-rate musicians. It’s a chance for me to play other songs other then the ones I busk, including some from a few of my own from self-produced CDs I’ve recorded that no-one really knows about.
“I’m really looking forward to it, though it will seem quite strange being out busking on the streets again afterwards,” he says.
“Maybe this concert will be the start of something different for me, or if it becomes my finale before moving onto new things, but if so I can’t think of any better way then bowing out than with a concert like this on my birthday.”
