A Wonderful Day to remember at cabaret
A SHOW dedicated to Doris Day, one of the biggest stars of the 20th century, can be seen at the Spa Theatre on Sunday.
Wonderful Day promises to transport its audience back to the romantic era of film and music when Day was queen of Hollywood.
"Reminisce and rediscover Day with great songs from Calamity Jane, Pillow Talk, Young at Heart, Love Me or Leave Me and The Pyjama Game," says Stewart Ward of the Spa.
"In this stylish cabaret-style show, sing along with Doris, enjoy stories, laugh at anecdotes from her life and re-live classic moments from her films."
Other songs include You Made Me Love You, Move Over Darling, Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps, Que Sera Sera, Deadwood Stage and Sentimental Journey.
Day is portrayed by Airlie Scott, an accomplished musical theatre performer and jazz singer. Cabaret singer and jazz pianist Andrew Brewis plays the other parts, holding the evening together on piano, with Rob Rickenberg on bass and Jasper Morrissey on drums.
Born in 1922, Day is now 87 and lives in Carmel, California. She is vegetarian and campaigns for animal welfare.
She has a UK fanclub based in Oxford and run by Sue Gkgr, who told the Evening News she spoke to Day at the weekend, and that she is very well.
Sue says Day has visited the UK twice, in 1955 (when filming The Man Who Knew Too Much) and 1973.
The Spa show is due to start at 8pm.
