ENTRIES are coming in from across the borough for the 2012 Miss Scarborough and District competition, but we need more girls from the town to take part in the prestigious event.

Since launching earlier this month, competitors representing Filey, Ryedale, Thirsk and York are currently in the title bid, but there’s still time for young women from the area to come forward and do the town proud – plus there’s an exciting added incentive for this year’s contestants!

Applicants aged 17-24 years who have a YO postcode are eligible to take part and one girl will be crowned Scarborough’s new beauty queen at a glittering final on April 21.

In the running so far is Alice Taylor, 18 of Skipsea; Beth Carpenter, 18, of Normanby; York University student Rebecca Nichol, 20; Jade Sorbie, 20, from York; , Eleanor Hardie, 19, a University of Hull student; sisters Sarah and Jo-Ann Clark of Filey plus Natalie and Lauren Simmons of Thirsk.

Official regional licence holder Diane Yalezo hopes more girls will take up the opportunity.

She said: “Last year’s winner Leanne was really shy but she’s come out of her shell, fully taking on the role.

“You don’t need to be a model or full of confidence, if you want to have fun, boost your self esteem and meet friendly people this competition could be for you.

“It’s open to any girls with a YO postcode, but we’d love for Scarborough girls to come forward.”

Entrants have been given a further boost with two girls given the opportunity to represent for Miss England.

Mrs Yalezo added: “This year’s event is even more exciting, not only will we be sending the new Miss Scarborough to the national final, but another entrant will also be going to the semi-final giving Scarborough and District the chance of having two girls in the Miss England Grand Final.”

To enter, simply fill out the form below, or email the relevant details to su-ann.chow@yrnltd.co.uk.

Please note, entrants must comply with all the rules of miss England which are available to view at www.missengland.info
