THREEFOLD congratulations are due to a number of Scarborough people regarding the story "Harriet, face of youth power" on March 19.
Firstly, to young Harriet Richmond who has recently been elected as the chairperson of the Scarborough Urban Area Forum. I have no doubt that Harriet will offer leadership and ideas, reflecting the views of many young people in Scarborough and district.

It is time that young people were given a greater say. It is to be hoped that more young people will follow in her footsteps.

Secondly, congratulations to the much older members of the Forum who were prepared to give Harriet the opportunity to lead them. Giving young people such a chance can take courage, but there can also be great rewards in so doing.

Thirdly, congratulations to the staff of the Raincliffe Business and Enterprise College.

Harriet, as the joint chairperson of the college’s Young Chamber, shows that young people, given the encouragement and opportunity, can make a great contribution, not only to the school, but also to the town as a whole.

Harriet’s success shows that the college’s strategy for young people is working to great effect.

How encouraging it is to see younger and older people working together to secure a positive future for the town.
