RE the comments of Mr Bond (an old wartime colleague) about the Irton water supply. My theory as obtained from old water inspections is the water supply at Irton is natural underground lake of unknown dimensions, the water from Irton is pumped to the reservoirs at Oliver's Mount, possibly Falsgrave Park and Osgodby, which in time is gravitated to other outlying areas, and the town itself.
Whether this has any bearing on the Knife Point disaster I am unaware. Furthermore the weir on the river running through Forge Valley meters water taken from the river, the water eventually meandening subterranean to supplement and supply the lake at Irton.
