YOU have no doubt had countless letters about the Filey Road and Seamer Road traffic scheme which is in progress of being built, but, I would like to put my point of view over which has not been looked at from this angle.
The Government is in the process of introducing green taxes on the driving public, so it encourages us to produce less Co2 emissions.
The Seamer Road corridor Co2 emissions must have quadrupled in the last couple of days since bringing the Queen M
argaret’s Road traffic lights into operation.
The traffic jam now permanently starts at the large roundabout at the start of Seamer road near Musham Bank.
This is without the school run in the morning and afternoon which makes getting in and out or passing through the town horrendous.
It now takes 30 to 40 minutes to get into town along this route, how long is it going to take once the Seamer Road park and ride lights come into operation?
For my wife and I, and no doubt many other living on the outskirts of town, it is only an 18-minute journey to Bridlington and a 45-minute drive to York, which is quicker than driving into Scarborough.
It will be much quicker for us to do our food shopping at Morrison’s, and non-food shopping in these other towns/cities.
It isn’t going to get any better with the scheme on Filey Road once it is in operation.
Well done Scarborough Council. You have really put the death knell on Scarborough with this ill thought-out scheme.
You really do need to give yourselves a pat on the back. I have never known a council make such a mess of a traffic scheme. Even visitors may not come after 2009 once they have had the first and last taste of taking over an hour and a half to get into town in the summer, because that is what it will take and longer.
You have had many comments by members of the general public that this would cause problems, and yet, you carry on regardless.
It is about time we had a working committee of the general public of Scarborough and surrounding area, that are able to have some clout and prevent mess-ups like this.
Personally I believe that Scarborough Council should be made accountable for this horrendous scheme they have introduced.
