THANK you for publishing my letter asking if anyone could tell me where I could buy woof, my favourite fish of long ago, but which no-one seems to have any of nowadays.
I was delighted to have a phone call from a gentleman in Bridlington, who buys it regularly from a fishmonger opposite Boyes store in the town.
Then a lady phoned me from Filey, who buys it from the only fishmongers shop there.
And, finally, I
had a call from Mr Thundercliffe who has a fishmongers shop at 38 Ramshill Road.
He usually has some in towards the end of the week, and gets it from Grimsby. It’s a good idea to phone him on (01723) 500552 to make sure he has it before you go, and because he is ‘closer to home’, this is where we went for it. But thanks to all our callers.
I do urge your readers to try it. It really is the best fish I’ve ever tasted, and I’m sure you will never want boring cod and haddock ever again.
Woof is moist and has a lovely texture. We bought it skinned and boned from Mr Thundercliffe – some to eat and some for the freezer, and now everyone can try it in their home town. I hope that is what will happen.
For me, my favourite shop in Scarborough will be Mr Thundercliffe’s – and fish is better for your health then red meat, so come on – give it a try.
I guarantee you’ll love it as much as I do.
