HAVING returned to reside in the Scarborough area after an absence of 30 years I decided to view the changes around the North Bay, where I spent most of my childhood.
Walking down to the open air theatre from Burniston Road I encountered litter strewn everywhere in the shrubberies and woods before arriving at the lake which was filled with tyres, rubble and leaves. The flowerbeds had been mulched, supposedly a wee
d suppressant but in reality it dries out and the first gust of wind blows it everywhere.

I progressed with my walk through building work in progress and reached the old Mr Marvels derelict amusement park; the only marvel is how it was ever given planning permission.

I once described it in a letter to your paper as a conglomeration of nissen huts. It still is except it appears as if a few V2s have dropped on it.

Surely this could have been cleared for the tourist season.

There are hundreds of yards of newt fencing covered with hideous black plastic wherever you walk. I’m all for conservation but this is way over the top.

It will not be necessary to curtail dog walking activities on the beach for the benefit of tourists, because if they want building sites they can go to Spain.

If the council cannot afford staff to clean up the area then let offenders who are sentenced to community service do it.

I would have thought there was plenty of cash available because the council has just increased town parking charges by a massive 35 per cent plus.

Next week I intend to walk through Peasholm Park and the Glen.

Scarborough Council shame on you!
