I SHOULD like to totally endorse J Dolan's letter (Evening News, March 17).
We received a parking ticket the same early Sunday morning, in the same virtually deserted car park as Mr Dolan, while attending the same church; in fact probably the only other car in the car park at that time was his.

Within the strict letter of the law it was a "fair cop", but I agree that double-time parking attendants should earn their extra money penalising offensive parking in the town centre.

The irony of our case is that we almost never use our car except on long trips – we walk everywhere. Unfortunately, the week prior to the Sunday in question I had left hospital after a total hip replacement and therefore had to be driven to church. We even had a valid parking disc in the vehicle but the nearest slot to our destination was in the car park.

It does look rather like "easy money" for the council.

Peter JH Slessor
