I HAVE noticed with interest the articles and letter generated by your readers regarding the "park and ride" system and the "refurbishment of theatres".
My opinions, for what they are worth, are as follows:

1. For access the Futurist Theatre is in a poor position, very little parking facilities available and for the patrons quite a slog from the town centre and thereabouts. I myself last visited t
he theatre in 1963 (Frankie Vaughan & the V Men).

2. The Spa itself is also not as accessible as to be perfect but is well known for conferences and entertainment and will probably survive for many years to come as long as the sea levels don't rise due to global warming.

3. The Seamer Road Park & Ride facilities look good but here a huge improvement could be made by building a brand new theatre and shopping complex adjacent to the parking area. It's the best possible way to pamper locals and visitors alike and also, of course, to attract them there with buses running from town (hotels etc) and then taking them back after a shopping spree and a visit to see top names in the entertainment world. Then installation of a rail station (on existing track) and even a heliport would prove advantageous for visitors arriving from various locations.

4. The end result would be (a) investment (b) employment (c) ease of access (d) enjoyment and finally (e) the original construction of the Park & Ride would be fully justifiable and would no doubt be in use 24/7.

The area could be called "Mere Pleasure" which prompts a slogan "Come to Scarborough for Mere Pleasure".
