PEOPLE are being warned to be on the lookout for forged £20 notes at shops and pubs.
On one occasion the fake notes were used to buy cigarettes and the busy shopkeeper had given back £17 in change before he realised the note was not genuine.

At least four businesses were targeted in the Ramshill Road area and the scam was only spotted when one of them used a marker pen which detects forgeries.

One shopkeeper said: "There's not much you can tell that's different."

Traders can use a counterfeit pen that changes colour on a forgery.

One suspect was about 5ft 7ins tall, with blond hair, was dressed casually and not believed to be local. Anyone who has any information is advised to contact Scarborough police on 0845 6060247.

What do you think?
