Young at heart of future of village life
I WOULD like to add my support to the letter written by the Cloughton Village Fund Committee which appeared in your newspaper on Friday June 11.
I have lived in Cloughton for 27 years and brought up three children here. Sadly we have witnessed the decline of the village.
It is inevitable that there will be new houses built in the village – the Government expects us to accommodate the growing population.
I was lucky enough to attend the seminars and open meetings that the Duchy of Lancaster representatives gave. It was plain to see that the Duchy is committed to moving Cloughton forward while maintaining its village atmosphere – they will provide affordable housing for our young people and the creation of a village square with a shop and playgroup facilities can only help our community.
I was of the opinion that profit was not on the top of the list for the Duchy's plans for the village – the wellbeing and the future of the community was.
There is no doubt that land will be sold for housing and I truly believe it is much better to encourage the Duchy to go ahead with its holistic approach rather than sell pieces of land to a number of different building companies who have a different agenda and profit as their main priority.
