Students are raising cash for India trip

ADVENTUROUS students at Scalby School in Scarborough are holding a race night to raise funds towards a trip to India.

They need to raise £3,000 each for the month-long expedition, during which they will help build a school for the children of the tea plantations and go trekking in the Himalayas.

Teacher Helen Stewart said: “We set up this course because of the unique way that we run our option system, which allows the students to have a wide choice of qualifications in the upper school.

“There are nine students who are completing the World Challenge course this year. It leads to a level three qualification and helps them gain points for university.”

The students are holding a fundraising race night at the Newlands pub at 7.30pm tomorrow night.

Entry costs £1 and bets are 50p. Everyone is welcome to come along and support the cause.

Miss Stewart added: “If anyone would like to donate money or sponsor any of the team, please contact me at the school.”

Call the school on (01723) 362301.

World Challenge provides educational expeditions in the developing world which teach life skills and expand minds outside the classroom.

Their bespoke student travel itineraries aim to foster team spirit and leadership skills.

The organisation runs expeditions to 50 destinations across the world and offers various community projects to youngsters.
