Streets named after locals

SCALBY and Newby residents who had made significant contributions to their communities were honoured by having new streets named after them 15 years ago.

The names chosen for new streets were:

Bielby Close – after a former owner of Newby Farm,

Hague Avenue – after William Playford-Hague, a former chairman of Scalby Urban District Council,

Thompson Close and Elison Avenue – after local GPs Dr Andrade Thompson and Dr Dorothy Elison,

Cow Wath – after the stream which flows through Scalby into Scalby Beck, and

Pornic Avenue – after Newby and Scalby's French twin-town.
