Show your views by using your vote
JOHN Fawcett (What We Think, February 23) says that he, and many like him, will not vote in any future national election because they are so appalled and disgusted by the scandal of the MPs' expenses.
I share his feelings about the expenses, but I would ask him and others to think again, and vote.
If you vote, you can express your opinion. You can express your disgust with those currently in Parliament by voting for a party which is not yet represented there, such as the Green Party (choose whichever is closest to your views).
But if you don't vote at all, no-one knows why. There are many reasons why people don't vote – they may be busy, ill, away, forget, never learned how, or dislike all the choices on offer.
If it is a 'safe' seat, they may think their vote doesn't count – a good reason for introducing proportional representation – but even if your favourite won't be elected, it's still worth voting for him/her, because then all parties will realise there are votes in those issues and the vote may build up to victory on another occasion.
I do expect a low turnout and many spoiled ballot papers this year, but I would urge your readers to consider making a positive choice.
