SCARBOROUGH Sea Cadets have taken part in the Eastern Area Armed Guard competition in Newark.

The youngsters had previously won through from the district competition and went on to compete against all the district winners from other counties.

The competition was held at Newark Showground last month.

A spokesman said: “All the previous hard work put in by these young cadets paid off when they came second.

“To add to this achievement their guard commander, Cadet Michael Stables, was placed second in the guard commanders competition.

“This was especially rewarding as it was his first attempt at guard commander.”

Chief Julie Davies of the Scarborough unit said: “They had worked very hard with their instructors and myself the rest of the unit were very proud of them.”

Scarborough Sea Cadets meet at the headquarters in East Sandgate and are currently raising funds to help renovate the building.
