Police Authority to consider council tax rise

editorial image

SCARBOROUGH residents could see their council tax bills rise after it emerged that North Yorkshire Police Authority is considering a hike.

Scarborough Council officers have already recommended that their share of council tax rises by three per cent, and that a Government grant, which would have paid for a council tax freeze, is turned down.

Members of the police authority will now decide whether to accept the non-recurring council tax freeze grant or turn it down and increase their precept by 3.135 per cent.

Whatever the decision, the difference in budget for the 2012/13 financial year would be minimal.

However, concerns have been raised that if the grant is accepted, its one-off nature could impact on budgets in future years.

If the rise is implemented, residents in a Band D property would see their annual police precept rise by £6.41.

The issue will be discussed following a report on the force’s annual revenue and capital budget.

The meeting of the police authority will be held in York on Monday.

They're a big disappointment. I have lost all faith and trust in them. I wouldn't ask them to run a tap.

suppose we have to cover the costs of Grahame Maxwell and Adam Briggs internal investigations for gross misconduct Maxwell alone cost us £250,000 along with the £200,000 pay off he got. North Yorkshire Police are corrupt tha is a fact proven in the courts.

I wouldn't mind paying more for the NYPD if we actually got more police for our money, but all we get is more PCSOs, Night Marshals and Jesus Loves You Street Angels.

More money for POLICE......... what POLICE?. There has been a decline in front line policing and more made up of community support officers who really have no powers. We should have a REBATE not an increase greedy gits.

After the "bathroom" debacle a few years ago, then the investigation into alleged nepotism at Northallerton, seems like NYP want to be in the national headlines again!
