Guide dogs volunteer appeal

THE Scarborough branch of Guide Dogs are holding an information morning at Westborough Methodist Church, Westborough, on Friday February 24 at 9.30am.

The event is being run to raise awareness about the work of Guide Dogs and in the hope of attracting more local volunteers.

There will be various speakers from Guide Dogs who will happily answer any questions about the organisation or volunteering.

In addition, a local guide dog owner already benefiting from the charity’s work will be there to talk about their own involvement with the charity and the difference that having a guide dog has made to their life.

Rebekah Shepherd for Guide Dogs said: “There are so many ways to volunteer. In particular we are looking for local people to take on the roles of branch secretary, treasurer and branch helper/fundraiser to form part of our Scarborough fundraising branch.

“Volunteering is fun and rewarding – you know you are helping to make a real difference to the lives of blind and partially-sighted people.”

The Guide Dogs service is entirely funded by voluntary donations, and needs support from volunteers to maximise its services for blind and partially-sighted people.

Anyone interested in volunteering or fundraising for Guide Dogs are invited to attend the local roadshow or contact the Guide Dogs Volunteering Team on 0845 371 7771 or email volunteer@guidedogs.org.uk

The guide dog service receives no government or social services funding – it is supported entirely by the generosity of the public.

There are around 4,500 guide dogs in the UK.
