YOUNG carers got together to celebrate the first anniversary of a successful project in Scarborough.
A gathering at the Stephen Joseph Theatre was organised by Scarborough and Ryedale Carers Resource to mark the milestone.
The group was set up to support carers aged 18 to 35 by helping them meet other young people in their situation and take part in social activities.
Those attending the celebration included young adult carers who have benefited from the group and a variety of professionals from agencies that work across the area.
Scarborough’s mayor John Blackburn also went along to support the event.
He said: “They’re doing a wonderful job, as a lot of carers don’t get to hear about support until these people tell them about it.
“I hope the group can get the funding it needs to keep going in the future.”
Scarborough and Ryedale Carers Resource chief officer Elizabeth McPherson said: “It’s fantastic to have got to our first anniversary.
“We’re very happy with how it’s going. The group is going from strength to strength and we to hope to continue delivering what carers want.”
Ms McPherson explained that the project is being funded for four years by the Big Lottery.
Young carer Kirsty Mundy, 32, of Seamer, said: “It’s a great way of meeting other people and socialising.”
