Eleanor’s badge honour

A SCARBOROUGH schoolgirl has been awarded a Blue Peter Badge in recognition of her outstanding fundraising achievements.

St Martin’s pupil Eleanor Wood received the iconic award after raising hundreds of pounds for local and international charities.

Eleanor, 10, started fund-raising at the age of five when she donated all her birthday money to the Thailand Tsunami appeal.

With the help of her sister Libby, Eleanor also raised money for the Scarborough Hospital Special Care Baby Unit, and organised a car was in aid of the Olivia Trust Fund, set up to support the daughter of murdered hairdresser Laura Smith.

Eleanor’s father Nigel Wood said: “We are very proud of Eleanor, she is a very caring little girl.

“She thinks she is very lucky and wants to do what she can to help people who aren’t as lucky as her.

“At the moment she is raising money for Olivia’s Trust. Laura Smith was Eleanor’s hairdresser. She thought a lot about her, and thinks Olivia is fantastic.”

Eleanor, who is a member of the Salvation Army junior choir, has organised a special coffee morning and cake stall at Park Manor Hotel on Febrary 5 between 10am and 12.30pm in aid of the Olivia Trust Fund.
