Diamond Jubilee plans get under way

PLANS are coming together for Staxton Village’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Monday June 4.

Those involved say they want to make it a day for everyone to remember and have now set up a “Jubilee Working Committee”.

The group of volunteers have made headway with the plans and have agreed that a Children’s Activity Day will be held, with everyone invited to join in the fun.

People are now being encouraged to come forward with any suggestions for activities.

The village now needs to raise funds for this special Jubilee Day and sponsorship is being sought from local businesses.

However, individuals, school and other groups are also being asked to lend their support.

This could be in the form of sponsorship prior to the day, fundraising, donating prizes or practical help on the day, such as assisting with children’s games or providing refreshments during the event.

A spokesman said: “This is Staxton’s opportunity to make it a very special day for our village.”

If you would like to get involved please contact Martin Harvey on (01944) 710243 or Pete Green on (01944) 710179.

A number of events will be happening locally and across the country to celebrate 60 years of the Queen’s reign.

The celebrations will take place on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June.
