Critics need to visit new store

RE: Poundland opening in the ex-Woolworth's Store.

Some readers seem to think that Poundland taking over the ex-Woolworth's store is a somewhat 'down market' change. Have these people visited the new store yet?

From the outside Poundland looks light and bright with very good external signage. Inside everything is clearly laid out with plenty of room to inspect the shelves. A wide range of goods is sold and if the store is anything like the small Poundland opposite M&S there will always be new lines coming along.

I am involved with the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal and Poundland provides the opportunity to buy lots of items for the boxes which otherwise my friends and I wouldn't be able to afford. Toy cars, musical instruments, drawing books, gloves, face flannels, hair decorations, erasers (10 for a pound) to name just a few of the items appreciated by children who have little or nothing at all.

Then there are all the other lines such as beverages, pet products and cleaning products etc., which are good value for money.

As far as visitors to Scarborough are concerned I think Poundland will attract shoppers as in the current economic climate they will appreciate seeing their money go a long way!

It will also prove handy if visitors decide on the spur of the moment to stay overnight and they can purchase whatever they need e.g. toothbrush/paste, undies, makeup etc., for very little.
