Bulldozers will destroy footballing history
SCARBOROUGH Borough Council is due to discuss the demolition of the Seamer Road Athletic Ground today – and we all know what the outcome will be.
I wonder if they will be using the usual team of consultants to help them come to a decision. The council purchased the ground off the administrators for the sole purpose of using it as a building site.
Councillor John Blackburn, who says he has been a Boro fan for 20 years, said the council had no alternative because the ground is in a state of disrepair.
Who is to blame for that? The administators who should have left the ground in the same condition as it was when they took it over and the council for not ensuring this was done and a lack of security on both sides.
They keep telling us about the plans to build a new stadium at the Weaponness Coach Park within three to five years – surely they mean one to three years as they have been saying this for the last two years.
But we have never see any laid out timetable or plans. With Boro's new chairman meeting with Hugh Bellamy, the chairman of Scarborough Town, we can all see where Boro's new home will be.
I hope when they send the bulldozers in they realise they are destroying part of Scarborough's footballing history.
