FINAL preparations are being put in place for Scarborough’s traditional Boxing Day celebrations.
Crowds are expected to gather in South Bay to watch the annual Fishermen and Firemen’s Fund football match on the beach, followed by the raft race in Scarborough harbour.
Teams taking part in the football will meet next to Lloyds in Newborough from 10am.
They will walk down to the beach accompanied by tunes from the Comic Band.
Scarborough’s mayor Cllr John Blackburn will then kick the game off at 10.30am.

During the morning people can contribute to the “Mile of Pennies”, which will start from the Lifeboat House and make its way along the seafront.
Liz Blades, secretary of the Fishermen and Firemen’s Charity Fund, said: “Everyone is looking forward to it again!
“The event normally raises around £1,000 and has made up to £1,300 in the past.
“We’ll be doing a street collection all morning and the money will go towards food vouchers for local elderly people at Christmas.
“It’s very well appreciated and we get lots of thank you cards and notes.
“We’ve got our fingers crossed for good weather this year and would encourage everyone to come down and enjoy it.”
The raft race, organised by Scarborough Sub Aqua Club, will start at 12.30pm.
Organiser Colin Lawson said: “We’re all looking forward to it, as always, and quite a few teams have entered.
“If we get a dozen rafts we’re very happy and anything else is a bonus.
“People always make an effort with their fancy dress, but they tend to keep the details under their hat until the day.
“We normally get a big crowd all around the harbour, which is a great response.
“I think it’s one of the best free shows in Scarborough!”
He added that the raft race began in the 1970s and has been well supported ever since.
Other events happening on Boxing Day include the traditional hunts.
The Derwent Hunt starts outside the Manor House in Brompton by Sawdon at 11am. The Middleton Hunt also starts at 11am in Malton market square.
