It was mum's birthday so as we had heard good reports about Walkers Fish Restaurant, we decided to give it a try. It was also baby Kieren's first lunch out being only five days old, but he slept throughout the
proceedings.
On entering you are greeted with lovely friendly staff, and a lounge area where you can have a drink and browse the menu before being shown to your table.

Of course we had to try their fish and chips – cod, haddock and lemon sole goujons all accompanied with chips, mixed bread and butter and beans or peas extra if required. Everything is cooked to order so a little wait is only to be expected, but well worth the wait.

When the meals arrived, they were beautifully presented, with batter that melts in your mouth, lovely white fish and delicious chips all served on nice crockery. Other meals provided are different types of fish, roast chicken and homemade steak and ale pie, priced £6.75-£10.50, salads £6.50-£9.00, freshly cut sandwiches £3.50-£4.95 and various side orders 30p-£3.00. Starters include soup and various fish dishes £3.00-£4.95, a children's menu with dishes on at £4.50 and a large selection of hot and cold beverages and alcoholic drinks served from the bar. There is a glass cabinet with a beautiful display of mouth-watering cold desserts and also hot puddings with
custard, cream or ice-cream, all desserts were priced at £3.95.

Mum and Helen just couldn't resist the tempting desserts. They had chocolate fudge cake and a sticky toffee pudding, both delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was the best ever.

The restaurant itself is traditionally decorated in red and green with wooden tables and chairs and fish tanks giving it a relaxed feel. Highchairs and booster seats are also available for children.

The toilets were spotlessly clean and again nicely decorated. The baby-changing facilities were excellent. A basket containing nappies, wipes and disposal bags was provided. Another basket contained paper towels and boxes of tissues.

It was very busy while we were there but the staff still had time to attend to your every need and made your time there enjoyable.

Overall, it's a little out of town but there is car parking, and a little more pricey than other fish restaurants but definitely worth it.

Overall opinion ****1/2
Value for money ***1/2
