THIS WEEK: Silks Fish and Chip Café, Castle Road, Scarborough

Having often had takeaway fish and chips from Silks at Crossgates, we decided to try their new fish and chip café on Castle Road.
This has been a fish and chip shop for several years and recently been taken over by Silks.
The café entrance is accessed from the alleyway to the side of the fish and chip takeaway. It isn't overly big inside, not many tables but plenty of room to get the pram inside – coffee and cream décor, co-ordinating flowers and vases and a large painting on one wall.
To eat we chose cod and lemon sole, both came with plenty of chips and mushy peas which was extra. Both the fish were lovely and white and the batter beautifully cooked. To drink we had a pot of tea but only a small jug of hot water, but were told we could have more water if needed.
Other items on the menu consisted of haddock, plaice, scampi, haddock goujons, squid, patties, chicken breast and steak pie all served with freshly cooked chipped potatoes, wedge of lemon and assorted condiments prices ranging from £3.95 - £7.95. They also do a "golden years" three- course menu for the over 60s – the mains £4.25, two courses £5.75 and three courses £6.95, children's fish and chips £2.95 and sausage, fish cake and nuggets all with chips £1.95. There is a small selection of desserts and hot and cold beverages.
The toilets were basic but very clean.
The waitress was kept very busy but managed to get everyone served efficiently.
Overall, delicious fish and chips, reasonable prices and served with a friendly smile.
