After negotiating a couple of flights of stairs with the pram we arrived in the very spacious modern looking café which is situated above H Samuel.
Once inside the café there was lots of room for the pram so we found an empty table near the window to watch people passing by in the precinct.

It was feeding time for Kieren and the staff were happy for Helen to breast feed, so while he was having his lunch we studied the menu which consisted of cakes and pastries 40p-£2.00, side orders £1.50-£2.50, light bites £1.80-£2.80, sandwiches £2.60-£2.90, panini or ciabatta grills £3.60-£3.80, salads £5.50-£5.80, jacket potatoes £3.20-£3.80 and ice cream sundaes £4.00.

Also a large selection of coffees, teas, hot chocolate, hot milk steamers, thick shakes, iced frappes and various cold drinks.

We decided on fresh cream mushrooms on toasted muffins and chicken, sweetcorn, peppers, sweetchilli and mozzarella on a panini and of course a portion of chips.

They were all delicious and very nicely presented. To drink we had a latte and a speciality hot chocolate which came with marshmallows, fresh cream, chocolate powder, and chocolate chips, absolutely gorgeous and the latte not to be outdone had a shape of a smiley face on top.

One area of the large room has comfy leather sofas and coffee tables where you can enjoy your morning coffee, the other area is made up of tables and chairs for those who are wanting a more substantial meal.

On the walls were abstract pictures and photos and a huge panoramic view of Scarborough.

We were however slightly disappointed by the décor in the toilets which had peeling paint and marks on the walls where something has been removed but the baby changing facilities however were adequate.

It was quite busy when we were there and the two young people serving were very efficient, smartly dressed and appeared to take the rush hour all in their stride.

Overall a very enjoyable meal, a little different to the ordinary but very appetising, not particularly cheap but worth that little extra. We would recommend a steaming mug of hot chocolate, relaxing on their comfy sofas to warm you up on a cold day.

Overall opinion ****

Value for money ***1/2

Hot chocolate *****
