Pardon the pun – it was too good an opportunity to lay up – but there was nothing fowl about this week's café tasting venue! Nestled in the outskirts of the beautiful Scalby Village, Foulsdyke Farmhouse Tea- rooms, appears less like a business and more like popping into a friend's house for a nice cup of tea!

On our arrival, which for the more directionally challenged of us meant completely bypassing the sign and having to phone for directions, we parked carefully up in the farmyard so as not to injure any of the eponymous chickens that presumably give the tearoom its name.

We were joined this week by my gorgeous baby niece and her mum but with so many buggies in tow, we felt a bit like an invading army as we descended upon the tearooms. As it was a beautiful summer's day, we decided to make camp by the courtyard table at the front of the farmhouse rather than disrupt the peaceful harmony within.

After a quick peek in the bustling, cosy dining room we appropriated a menu from one of the tables and made our way outside to deliberate over the selection of sandwiches, cakes and afternoon teas on offer.

Our order of coffees and lemon drizzle cake came almost immediately and we decided that this was definitely a perk of having a smaller premises. The cake was sweet and slightly sticky with a kick of lemony zing that would have made it easy to demolish the whole cake, let alone a slice. The coffees were delicious and smooth, served in an eclectic selection of china mugs which would have looked out of place in a chic, town centre café, but perfectly suited Foulsdyke Farmhouse's countrystyle locality.

The peace was almost as enjoyable as the cake, allowing us to kick back, relax and watch the world go by, while our daughters ogled at the occasional curious chicken brave enough to approach the chubby fists waving from the buggies.

Just like the exterior, the inside of these tearooms are pretty, quaint and spotlessly clean. The facilities impressive from the immediate farmyard parking to the seating both indoors and out, ensuring all weathers are catered for!

Foulsdyke Farmhouse certainly offers a real getaway treat and the rustic surroundings of this charming location guarantee that customers leave refreshed and cheery having enjoyed a truly pleasant experience.
