THIS WEEK: Cafe Columbus, Sandside, Scarborough

Having just been to Tesco to do some shopping and still being too early for our ballroom dancing class, we decided to find another café on the seafront that we haven't yet tried for a drink.
It was a lovely summer's evening and plenty of people were still about.
We decided on the Café Columbus, and although there were some tables free outside, we decided to sit inside to get a better feel of the café. It is a lot bigger than it first appears, with tan leather upholstered seating and brown wooden tables and chairs.
Red carnations are on all the tables, cream walls with pictures which looked like they were old scenes of Scarborough and lovely matching white crockery.
As we stood at the counter ordering our tea and coffee we saw some delicious cakes and couldn't resist temptation, we just had to have one.
We both chose a coconut pyramid, which came beautifully presented on a white doyley, was absolutely delicious and along with our drinks was just enough to keep us going to after our dance class.
The café also serves lovely ice-cream dishes and takeaway ice creams are also available.
Other items on the menu consist of sandwiches, £3.60 to £4.80, hot snacks, £2.50 to £5.60, toasted sandwiches and other items 45p to £3.70, all day breakfasts £5.60, desserts and cakes 55p to £2, and various hot and cold drinks from £1.15 to £2.
The toilet had baby changing facilities, were basic but very clean.
The staff were very smart all in black with white aprons and very friendly, although we only had a drink and cake, someone came to ask if everything was to our liking.
Overall, perfect for the view across the harbour, outside seating on a hot sunny day and very good value for money whether it is for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea.
Overall opinion ***1/2
Value for money ***1/2
