THIS WEEK: ASH'S BISTRO, SANSIDE, SCARBOROUGH

It was a beautiful hot sunny day and we decided a café on the seafront with outdoor seating was the order of the day. We wandered along to see which cafes were in the best position for the sun because you never know when we'll see the sun again!
Our first impressions were excellent – firstly for the sun and secondly the view across the harbour. There were brown wicker chairs with metal tables outside (plenty of tables in the sun) and a small indoor seating area. We were quite early for lunch so not many tables were taken up.
No menus were on the table but on entering the open plan café where we had to order our meals there was a small but adequate menu board on the wall behind the counter. We chose a ham and cheese panini and a beef bolognaise jacket potato, a tea and a latte to drink. As we sat and waited for our meals and drinks to be brought to our table we looked at the appetising meals already being brought out. Our meals arrived and first impressions were how nice they looked – the ham and cheese panini with side salad was very nice and filling, but the bolognaise jacket potato was a great disappointment.
The beef bolognaise would have been better suited to a cottage pie as it tasted like minced beef and gravy.
The latte was very nice and the tea came in a pot with plenty of hot water. They were also happy to provide us with a jug of hot water for Kieren's bottle.
The rest of the menu consisted of your usual café items: salads, sandwiches, cream cakes, gateaux, scones and hot and cold drinks including wines and beers.
Overall we'd say perfect for the view, lovely friendly and welcoming staff and very good value for money. (Shame about the jacket potato).
Overall opinion ***
Value for money ***1/2
