THE Harbour Bar has been a permanent fixture on Scarborough Seafront for many years.
They are mainly known for their wonderful selection of ice-cream dishes, these include Strawberry Glory, Fruit Cocktail, Pear Melba, Banana, Chocolate and Jelly Delight, Pineapple Glory and the infamous Knickerbocker Glory.

They also serve icecream to customers from their open window. A variety of hot and cold sandwiches are on offer, these consist of ham, cheese, egg or tuna mayonnaise, bacon, sausage, griddled chicken and steak Americano. These are served on either white or wholemeal bread and toasted if preferred and the prices range from £2.70 to £3.95.

A good selection of hot and cold drinks are served including their real fruit and ice-cream milkshake. We chose the ham and cheese toasted sandwich and the griddled chicken sandwich which came nicely presented with a side salad and delicious coleslaw. To drink we had a decaffeinated coffee and a milky coffee.

The decaffeinated came in a tall glass, the other in a glass without a handle making it difficult to hold. You cannot go to the Harbour Bar and not have an ice-cream dish so we opted for the Jelly Delights but Catherine wanted chocolate ice-cream on hers instead of plain which they were only too happy to oblige.

Both were just as good as we remembered from our younger days. The staff looked very smart in their matching yellow uniforms. There are only a few tables but plenty of high bar stools around the counter. There is easy access for prams and wheelchairs and plenty of room to accommodate them. The place itself had an American diner feel with red and yellow décor, and was spotlessly clean. Overall a very pleasant meal in nice surroundings. For ice-creamaholics it's a must.

Overall opinion ****
