Kids Rule! at Scarborough Castle during May half-term

Scarborough Castle will be hosting a week of exciting activities and fresh air fun during the upcoming May half-term.

With its stunning location, fascinating history and panoramic views over the coast, Scarborough Castle is one of North Yorkshire’s finest historic sites.

This once-mighty fortress has endured attacks from Vikings, medieval barons, Tudor rebels and a Parliamentary army during an epic Civil War siege.

Today you can explore the castle’s majestic ruins, follow the long curtain wall with its many towers and climb viewing platforms in the Inner Bailey and the 12th-century Great Tower.

Set on a 16-acre headland home to wildflowers and wildlife, it’s the perfect place for a family-friendly adventure in the fresh air.

Visitors can see the ruins of an ancient Roman signal station, used to give warning of Saxon raids and view site finds from across the centuries, from prehistoric pottery to a Bronze Age sword

During the May half-term children are in charge at the special ‘Kids Rule!’ event which takes place from May 25 until June 2.

The ‘Kids Rule!’ event encourages children to step back in time to the medieval era, whilst budding knights have a go at hobby horse jousting.

After experiencing the thrill of jousting, all can get involved with interactive story battles, fun family shows and decide who was the best monarch.

Admission to the event is included in the standard admission ticket price or free to English Heritage members.

A special residents day on Sunday May 26 will allow families from YO11, YO12, YO13 postcodes to visit the castle free of charge.
